Kayla's external hard drive
𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐧𝐚 | 𝑱𝒆𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒌𝒐𝒐𝒌Kayla’s external hard drive is the final physical repository Jungkook Jeon seizes in his effort to stop Kayla Brown from using intimate recordings to threaten him and Shelby Anderson Barnum. Its destruction closes a chain of digital coercion by turning the threatened material’s storage devices into broken objects rather than instruments of control.
Role in Kayla’s Threat
Kayla first confronts Shelby with a video on her phone, showing Shelby footage of Kayla and Jungkook together. The recording gives Kayla a means to wound Shelby and exert pressure through the possibility of further exposure. The narrative does not establish that this particular video is stored on the external drive, so the drive’s role is more specific: it is one of the devices Jungkook demands when he confronts Kayla, alongside her phone and computer.
Seizure and Destruction
Jungkook demands Kayla’s phone and computer and asks for an external hard drive if she has one. Under his threat, she unlocks her devices and lets him access them. He deletes the cloud data, formats both devices, takes them to the window, and throws them onto the hotel parking lot, where they break on the pavement. He keeps the external drive, then leaves with it.
Later, Jungkook tells Shelby that he destroyed the drive as well as deleting the cloud files and formatting Kayla’s devices. The account confirms the outcome, though it does not describe the physical act of destroying the drive. Together, these actions leave Kayla without the collection of devices she had used to preserve and wield her recordings.
Evidence and Significance
The drive belongs to a broader conflict over who controls recordings and what they can do to the people they depict. Kayla’s phone makes the intimate video visible to Shelby; Jungkook’s destruction of the storage systems is intended to prevent further nonconsensual exposure. Separately, security-camera footage at Spencer Jenkins’s establishment captures Kayla adding a substance to a drink before Jungkook arrives and drinks it. That footage is reviewed by police and helps establish what happened, but the book does not connect it to the external drive.
The drive’s importance lies in this distinction between recording as a weapon and recording as evidence. Kayla’s material is presented as a threat to Shelby and Jungkook, while the surveillance footage gives police a record of Kayla’s actions. The hard drive is not itself described as containing either video; its narrative significance comes from being the last physical device Jungkook takes and destroys to end Kayla’s capacity to use her stored material against them.
